If you’re a frequent user of Messenger, you may have noticed that there are times when your friends send you a message and it doesn’t appear to have been sent. Or, they send you a message and it doesn’t show up in your inbox. It’s frustrating, but this is probably because they haven’t sent the message yet! Indeed, Facebook sends users an un-sent message notification if the person messaging you hasn’t sent their message yet. This can happen for a number of different reasons; some people get so many messages at once that their notifications don’t load properly. Occasionally, somebody might even unintentionally double-send a message by pressing the button again before it has finished sending. Fortunately, there are ways to check whether or not someone has un-sent you a message on Facebook Messenger. Let’s take a look at some different ways to view un-sent Facebook messages…
Check Messenger to see if the message was sent
The very first thing you can do is check the Messenger app to see if the message you think was un-sent actually got sent. If the person sent it, you should have a notification on your phone or computer that you have a new message. If you don’t have a notification and you’re certain they sent you a message, you can try to track down the message by going to your inbox in Messenger. Every message you’ve ever received or sent is kept in your inbox, so it’s easy to look through your conversations to find the message in question. If you don’t see the message in your inbox, you might have accidentally deleted it. If this happens and you need to see the message again, you can request a copy of the message and Facebook will send it to you. You can do this by clicking “Report/Request” and then clicking “Report un-sent message”. Keep in mind that Facebook can only do this if the message has been un-sent for less than seven days.
View your notifications
When you receive a Facebook message, you’ll receive a notification on your phone. Since notifications are a part of the app itself, they’re always sent. So if the person sent a message, it will appear in your notifications. If you know for sure that you received a notification for the message in question, it’s likely that it was sent. But if you’re unsure, you can always check your chat history to see if the message is there. To do this, go to your Facebook Messenger app, click the menu in the top-right corner, click “Chats” and click “All Chats”. You can then scroll through your entire chat history and check to see if the un-sent message is there.
See when the message will be sent
If you don’t see a notification and you’re certain that the person sent you a message, you can check when the message will be sent by hovering over the un-sent message. When you hover over the message, you’ll see a “Delay Send” option appear below the message box. Click “Delay Send” and the message will be sent at that time. If you don’t see the “Delay Send” option, the person hasn’t sent the message yet. This feature is particularly useful if you’re messaging somebody and they don’t respond immediately. If you hover over the un-sent message and see that it will be sent in an hour, you know that the person will respond to you later. If you need to see when the message will be sent, you can also click the three dots in the top-right corner and select “Delay Send”.
Check your Sent Messages folder
If you’ve sent a message and you don’t see it in your inbox, it’s possible that you accidentally sent the message and don’t realize it. If you’re certain that you didn’t accidentally send the message, it’s still in your “Sent” folder. To access the “Sent” folder, go to Facebook Messenger, click the menu in the top-right corner, click “Settings”, click “Chat”, click “Archive”, click “All” and click “Sent”.
Conclusion about how to see unsent messages on Facebook messenger
Thankfully, you don’t have to worry about missing un-sent Facebook messages too often. Fortunately, there are lots of different ways to check whether or not you’ve received an un-sent message, so you’re likely to see it before it disappears. However, you should keep in mind that un-sent messages don’t appear in the same way as sent messages. If you see a message that is un-sent, you won’t be able to see the message; you’ll only be able to see the “Delay Send” option. If you receive frequent un-sent Facebook messages, you might want to consider de-cluttering your notifications. You can do this by turning off notifications for Facebook on your phone, muting Facebook notifications on your computer, or changing Messenger notifications to “When Read”.
